My other concern is that it may be a regressive tax along the lines I wrote about. That is, the lower your income the higher the percentage of that income you have to spend to just get by. The lower-middle class would be paying a much higher percentage of their resources in taxes. However, it could be written to be progressive when it comes to luxury items.Jackie David Johnshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12821811284424509542noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-156763359417341201.post-41045129576671243382008-11-04T06:25:00.000-08:002008-11-04T06:25:00.000-08:00While I don't think it would happen without seriou...While I don't think it would happen without serious support across the nation, I am very much in favor of the Fair Tax, promoted by Congressman John Linder and Neal Boortz.

It's a consumption tax, it would repeal the progressive tax system, and, ideally, increase revenue to the government when ALL purchases are taxed. A 'prebate' check would be sent to all Americans to compensate for the amount of taxes they would pay on necessities (food, etc).

I think it would work, but the current tax code is used by far too many politicians (left and right) for now for there to be any serious debate in washington.

www.fairtax.orgBrandon Andersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12047897072511218776noreply@blogger.com
